When searching for an assisted living facility for your loved one you will want to keep a few key factors in mind in order to make sure your senior family member is taken care of.

Cleanliness. You will want to look for a clean facility that smells like home in that there is no one specific smell, like urine, that overtakes everything else.

Location. How close they will be living in comparison to you, the hospital, their original home, etc. are all important to consider.

Staffing. If you see the staff and they seem overworked or that there aren’t many around, you may want to continue looking for other facilities.

Entertainment. Look or ask for a calendar of events – this shows that the director of the facility wants to keep their residents active and engaged.

Safety. Ultimately, you want your loved one to be safe and well protected when they are living at this facility. Alarmed doors, railings, and ramps are all important things to note when conducting your search.

No facility will be perfect. But choosing where your loved when will reside will greatly affect their future health.
