A young girl in Arkansas raised more than $50,000 to provide nursing home residents with small gifts they desired.
Ruby Kate, an 11-year-old, has visited nursing homes for most of her life since both her parents work in long-term care. She began talking with residents about what three things they wanted most in the world. Many of the requests were small or realistic items; some residents wanted french fries where others just wanted a pair of new shoes.
Ruby Kate and her mother went to five nursing homes to spread the effort. They even started a GoFundMe page that had raised more than $50,000. After CNN picked up the story, her mother is thinking of creating a nationwide organization to help even more seniors.
